We've had a wonderful February here at the Center and we're looking forward to what March and the upcoming spring will hold. There are a few new releases that we're really excited about (Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner due out 3/7 and The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz due out on 3/17 are just two that come to mind!).
At the end of February, we co-hosted the third annual African American Read-In on the University of Tennessee campus at Hodges Library. Several readers shared picture books, young adult literature, memoirs, nonfiction, essays, and poetry celebrating African American voices. Several local high school students participated in the event as well as campus and community members. For a reflective look at the event, please see the article our local newspaper published.
As March enters in, we welcome Women's History Month. The Center's associate director, Dr. Cindy Welch, shares some wonderful reading material to highlight amazing women!
We're also looking forward to author Jeff Zentner joining us via Skype at our next YA Book Club Meeting. We'll be reading Zentner's The Serpent King, a William C. Morris Award winner for a debut YA novel. For more information about the YA book club, see our Facebook page.
