Our fall semester is just beginning here at the Center for Children's and Young Adult Literature and we have many new and exciting things to share with you. We wanted to let you know of an upcoming event that we are thrilled about. On September 19, Matt de la Pena will be visiting the Knoxville area. Matt de la Peña is the New York Times Bestselling, Newbery Medal-winning author of six young adult novels: Ball Don’t Lie, Mexican WhiteBoy, We Were Here, I Will Save You, The Living and The Hunted. He’s also the author of the critically-acclaimed picture books A Nation’s Hope: The Story of Boxing Legend Joe Louis (illustrated by Kadir Nelson) and Last Stop on Market Street (illustrated by Christian Robinson).
The countdown is on to the Best of the Best event (BoB)! It's impossible to read all the new great children's and young adult litearture that comes out each year, so let us help you! BoB is a day-long series of book talks about books for children and teens, and is focused on the newest and best materials published since July 2015. There are curriculum-related connections for school librarians, and programming connections for public librarians. The event is open to teachers, librarians, nonprofit employees, caregivers, and anyone who is interested in the latest fiction and nonfiction for youth!
As the summer continues to progress, the CCYAL is enjoying the many literacy partnerships we have been cultivating throughout the year. We were pleased to partner with Dr. Troy Hicks and Dr.
